Special Education
Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD) provides provides a continuum of placement and service options to address the individual needs of students who qualify for special education and related services. Decisions regarding appropriate placement and services are made by each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) team based on the unique needs of the individual student. Eligibility for special education is determined by the IEP team following a special education assessment.
The School Psychologist supports the academic, emotional, and social well-being of students by providing individual counseling, conducting assessments, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators. They help identify and address learning or behavioral challenges, develop intervention strategies, and promote a positive school environment

The Resource Specialist Program (RSP) Teacher supports students who receive special education services by providing individualized and small-group instruction based on their unique learning needs. The RSP Teacher collaborates with general education teachers, families, and other school staff to help students access the curriculum and make progress toward their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. They also provide accommodations, instructional strategies, and ongoing support to help students grow academically and experience success in the classroom.
