History

Arturo A. Sanchez Elementary School, formerly known as Ralph Nottingham Elementary School, has a long history of serving the Norwalk community.

In 1991, the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District voted to rename the school in honor of Arturo A. Sanchez, a longtime Norwalk community volunteer and activist who dedicated countless hours to supporting the school and the surrounding community.

Sanchez was well known for his commitment to bringing the community together. Among his many contributions, he helped establish and promote the school’s Halloween Parade, which grew into a citywide tradition and became one of Norwalk’s largest community celebrations.

The school was officially rededicated as Arturo A. Sanchez Elementary School in September 1992, ensuring that his legacy of service, community involvement, and dedication to children would continue to be remembered by future generations.

Today, Sanchez Elementary proudly carries his name and continues the spirit of community, service, and student success that Arturo A. Sanchez represented.
